'Building Community'

Tasha Hunter

In this episode Tasha Hunter and Andrea Miller talk about finding community in the wilderness. They discuss the invisible wilderness so many seem to be living in right now, and opening yourself up to relationships after experiencing hurt and loss. They share about their meeting one year ago on IG in Oct of 2020,  at a time when both felt to be living in an invisible wilderness with loss of community and an unraveling of their faith. Over the past year,  as their friendship has expanded, so has their desire to create a safe space for others to heal and find community.  They share their vision for the future to create a space where all can  be fully welcome to the table just as they are.

Tasha is an Air Force veteran with a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Social Work. She’s a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and resides in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She specializes in the treatment of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and stress and works to eradicate the stigma of mental health by speaking to others at workshops and seminars about trauma and related mental health topics.

At a time when so many are experiencing loss of friends, faith and community we hope this episode

We met at a time when we were both experiencing loss of community and an unraveling of our faith. We were both living in an invisible wilderness of sorts, seeking real friendships and true community where we could bring our full selves to the table.

In this episode we talk about our own faith unraveling , leaving the church and opening yourselves up to friendship after being hurt.

As our friendship has deepened over the last year, we have found others seeking the same sense of community and belonging. Inspired by our own little “women’s retreat” this past month with a small circle of amazing women, Tasha and I share a little bit about our vision for the future in creating a safe space for more women to join our circle of belonging. We are imagining and dreaming better—that church, community and friendship don’t have to be a source of hurt and trauma but rather a place of true being, belonging and healing.

I hope our conversation has left you hope filled and with a sense of knowing you aren’t a alone and you don’t need to change yourself to belong.

THE RETREAT TASHA AND I SPOKE OF IS HAPPENING IN OCT 2022 and you belong there. Stay tuned for more details.
