Marcie Walker
Marcie Walker is a Christian, African-American blogger. She is the creator of the blog and Instagram feed, Black Coffee with White Friends, a blog that chronicles her experiences as a black woman navigating white-dominant spaces. Through the use of memoir, letters, and devotionals, she narrates the legacy of our life and times today, mostly for her daughter but also for future generations. Most recently Marcie has also created “Mocking Bird History Lessons” where she researches, writes and shares the missing narratives of our country’s history.
Marcie lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, daughter and two dogs.
In this episode Marcie shares her story of growing up as a black girl in mostly all white spaces and her own experiences with the racism and oppression. We also talk about the white washed history narrative of America that is still taught today and why this narrative has to change. We also talk about thanksgiving and respectful and thoughtful ways to acknowledge this day while teaching our kids the true story.
